Sara Hastreiter-Fodor
Special Events & Spay/Neuter Coordinator
Sara Hastreiter-Fodor, grew up in the great state of Wyoming. She grew up surrounded by horses, cats, rabbits, a parrot named Tasha, chickens, pigs, and no less than 3-5 dogs at any given time. Her father also had a soft spot for taking in injured creatures like an injured hawk, opossums, wild bunnies, rejected parakeets and even Mabel the praying mantis! She graduated from the University of Wyoming in 2008 with a degree in International Studies with a regional focus in Africa. This led to many internships and travel throughout Africa and the Caribbean working with the social side of HIV/AIDS. In 2010, she discovered a passion for sailing while living in the Caribbean and fulfilled a long held dream of sailing across an ocean. Like most of the things she takes an interest in- Sara became incredibly passionate about ocean racing and after 3 short years in professional sailing, she joined an all female to race around the world in the Volvo Ocean Race. After a 13 year career in professional sailing and high altitude mountaineering, her next endeavor into Olympic sailing ended in 2020 with the interruption of COVID. As the world of sport stopped for her, she used the time to begin a Master’s in Organizational Psychology at Harvard University and found herself in Jackson due to the pandemic closing campus. She met and married her husband Stefan during that time and has happily been in the valley the past 5 years. When they met, Stefan had two horses. Being equally passionate about animal’s and animal rescue, their brood has expanded to 7 animals, including their rescued cats, Bert and Ernie and their beloved adopted dogs Franklin Pierre and Tallulah Rosé.
