The Animal Adoption Center has rehomed approximately 3,500 animals and counting since the inception in 2004.

How to Adopt

Our goal is to ensure that your new four-legged friend arrives fully equipped with all the skills necessary to make a successful adjustment to their new home and family life. The adoption process begins with an application form and concludes after the successful completion of a two week trial period designed to ensure a smooth transition for the animal and the new adopter.

Step 1: Search our adoptable animals

Browse our animals on our website, Petfinder, Facebook or visit the AAC to meet them in person.

Step 2: Fill out an application

Dog ApplicationCat Application

Step 3: Adoption Requirements

  • Our dog adoption fee is $175 and the cat adoption fee is $80
  • Potential adopters are required to foster for at least one night. Once your application is reviewed and approved we honor a two-week trial period to make sure your new pet fits in well with your family and lifestyle.
  • Adoption fees will be deposited after the two week trial period. If during the trial period you find that the animal is not a suitable match the adoption fee will be refunded.
  • Any animal adopted from the AAC is always welcomed back if for any reason you can no longer care for him or her at any point in their life.
  • Adopters must be at least 24 years old to adopt a cat or dog.
  • Adopters who rent their home must have landlord approval in order to adopt.
  • We welcome out of area adopters, however we require prospective adopters to visit our facility and spend at least one night with the animal.

Step 4: Congratulations! You are the new mom or dad to a fur-baby!

***THIS IS A COURTESY LISTING. THIS DOG IS NOT A PART OF THE ANIMAL ADOPTION CENTER AND WILL BE ADOPTED OUT THROUGH HIS CURRENT HOME. PLEASE USE THE PROVIDED CONTACT INFORMATION TO SET UP A MEET AND GREET TO ADOPT THIS ANIMAL*** Rayen is a sweet, almost 5yr. old neutered Australian Shepherd. Through no fault of his own, he needs a new home. The owner has had major life changes resulting in living conditions which do not suit the breed. His first 3 years were spent on a working ranch (he was raised as an inside dog and is fully potty trained. Ray is respectful of horses, cattle, chickens, cats. He had only spent time with one much older dog on the farm and they were fine together. He is learning to "dog" in his foster home where there are a Goldendoodle, English bulldog, and 3 cats. Foster mom says that while he does not have a dominant personality, he will (appropriately) put his bulldog friend in her place when she gets excited and forgets her manners. He is fed in a room with both dogs and a nosy cat. The cat evokes no reaction at all and as long as the other dogs don't walk right up to his food, there is no problem. (Where he used to pick at his food, he eats better on a schedule.) Rayen's parents had a premature baby who has special needs 20 months ago. He has been with the baby (now a toddler) with no issues. He is simply living in quarters which are too small, and is not exercised at all. He is calm and snuggly when inside, but given a job like fetch- he has boundless energy. Rayen is extremely obedient and follows commands from anyone who has spent just a few minutes getting to know him. His foster mom says he has been a little bit needy and naughty just a few times when left to his own devices, but she feels these behaviors are simply from being ignored and not exercised for the past 18 months. True to the breed he would make a fine working dog where he is also a household companion. He would do well in a household where he can travel and exercise regularly with his person(s). Foster mom will only consider a home able to provide the mental, physical and grooming needs associated with the breed. Rayen is located in Idaho Falls but his foster mom is more than willing to transport him to his forever home if need be. Please contact his foster mom Susan by email at: bigger_on_the_inside@yahoo.com or by phone at: 208-403-2126

COURTESY LISTING PLEASE DO NOT CONTACT THE AAC. CONTACT THE FOSTER PROVIDED BELOW TO INQUIRE MORE. Phone: 307-413-7903 Email: ashleybarnard48@yahoo.com -Ashley I adopted Decker about 5 years ago from you guys. He came from a litter of puppies found on the refuge. I immediately fell in love with him. Decker is a German Shepard/Saint Bernard Mix. He is a little over 100 lbs. He is the definition of a gentle giant. He is so full of love and affection. Decker does have a few flaws. Decker has some dog aggression. It is only toward some dogs, not all. He is only aggressive when put with a dominant dog. If the dominant dogs shows aggression toward another dog, Decker will do the same. He lives with my dad who has 2 dogs of his. Decker gets along with them great. My sister and brother have both (at separate times) brought in a dominant dog to the house. One of my dad's dogs got attacked a few times. Decker never started the fights but he jumped in on them. This is Decker's only downfall. He is so loving and caring. He absolutely LOVES people. He loves to cuddle and believes he is still a lap dog. He is very well mannered and knows basic commands. He is amazing with kids. Even with him being so big he is great with little kids. I would love to try training with him but I cannot keep him at my dad's house any longer. I would love to see Decker go to a good home with a yard for him to run around. He is a big dog and I do not want to see him go to a family in an apartment. Decker should probably be put in a home with no other dogs. Unless the adopters want to pursue training. Thank you for taking the time to help me out. I really look forward to hearing from you guys. Attached are a few pictures of my sweet boy. if you have any questions please feel free to contact me. Phone: 307-413-7903 Email: ashleybarnard48@yahoo.com -Ashley

Stubby is a 5 year old, neutered male chi-weenie. They both came from the same home after their owner passed away. Perry and Stubby enjoy snuggling under the covers and on your lap as much as possible, which is quite wonderful during these cold Wyoming winters. They both had significant dental disease and no longer have any teeth, which doesn't affect them at all. Perry and Stubby are happy to go to a home together or individually. They are great with other dogs and cats, though their main preference is to lay by the wood stove or next to you. If you are looking for one or two warm and snuggly dogs, these boys fit the bill! ***GINGER IS A COURTESY LISTING MEANING SHE IS NOT IN THE AAC PROGRAM*** PLEASE CONTACT HER CURRENT FOSTER LISTED IN HER DESCRIPTION. 307-217-2644 Our sweet Ginger (5-year-old Border Collie-Beagle mix) must be rehomed. A breed like hers needs plenty of activity and engagement that we cannot provide to her due to health and private circumstances. She was purchased as a puppy. She needs a family with kids or other pets, along with space to run. She is a great hiking dog, and protective of our cat. She is kennel trained, spayed, has a microchip, 2018 rabies shot, and is super healthy on a grain-free diet. She is around 50 lbs. She is not a lap dog or a lazy dog. She will become depressed if she doesn’t get much activity, so she needs consistency. She loves fetch, walks, and playing with her toys. She needs at minimum a fenced yard. She responds to numerous commands and comes when called. But she doesn’t like being outside during strong wind. Her breed is super smart, and is known for barking at strangers when on her own turf. She can be shy upon meeting new people when introduced either on a walk or in her home, but quickly warms up. She is very loving. She needs to sleep indoors with her kennel (with the kennel door open or closed). She will also sleep with you, or on a mattress if you allow. She is a patient of Big Horn Vet, and she has been groomed by Suds N Buds and Doggie Doo. We intend to make sure that her new home is a good fit, and thus will charge a fee of $100 and investigate potential settings. We will include free of charge her kennel, toys, bowls, air tight food bin, and any food or treats on hand, and her blankets. We will not rehome Ginger with breeders, or with anyone who we feel is at risk of not providing proper care or not being a forever home. Transportation is possible/negotiable. Gauge is the sweetest little boy his only vice is that he isn't good with strangers rushing up to him, if he is slowly introduced to someone he is a perfect gentleman. However, if someone just comes up to him or he feels threatened by something he has a tendency to nip at them. He needs somewhere with a fenced yard and probably no children. My current situation right now just does not have that for him. Ideally I could find a long term foster situation for him until I have a more suitable environment for him. I know that would be nearly impossible to find. He is my baby and I do not want to let him go but I don't know what I can do for him right now. My name is Morgan Patterson and my phone number is 307-699-3126

My name is Harriet and I am a approximately 8 year old old, DLH, female Torti. I arrived at the AAC on 3/20/18 from Teton Valley Community Animal Shelter in Driggs where I was found as a stray covered in thick mats (hence my haircut now). I am mellow, loving, and might I say gorgeous even with my lion cut. ***COURESTY LISTING*** This dog is not in the possession of the AAC. Please contact the information provided below. Kona Adult Female Medium Mix – Shepherd, Chow, Greyhound… House-trained: yes Spayed Up to date on vaccines Good in a home with: male dogs A note from Kona’s mom Kona is a sweet, happy, vibrant girl who absolutely loves life. She is a silly, playful, outgoing, loving soul. Her favorite things are running around in the mountains, cuddling her humans, chewing antlers, and playing with her stuffed animals and toys at home (oh, and peanut butter). She is a goofball, the best snuggly cuddle buddy, and the most enthusiastic, excited adventure buddy I’ve ever had. She will follow me around the house and flop down wherever I am, always engaged with me, just waiting to see what’s next – whether we are going to relax and read/chew bones or go out on our next adventure. She’s content to have company, know that she’s loved, and know that the outdoors are always waiting for her J … She and her sister were the best of friends but have decided they no longer want to get along. For this reason, I can no longer keep them both and Kona should not go to a home with another female-female dynamic. She would do great with a male dog her size or larger. She also does great outside at parks and on trails. A fenced yard and an active family would be best for Kona. She loves action, company, and having fun whenever possible. Please reach out if you or someone you know might be a good match and would want to make Kona a part of the family for life. She is so, so loved and has infinite love for her humans in return. I want to send her into another happy and loving home. Call Kim @ 973.886.1021

My name is Layton and I am a 1 year old, female, DSH, tabby. I was surrendered in Idaho Falls and arrived at the AAC on 2/21. I am a sweet, petite little girl with a feisty side. I am playful and active and need a lot of room to run around and get my kitty zoomies out. I would not thrive in a small house or apartment unless I was taught how to be an indoor/outdoor cat. I get along with other cats as long as they like to play!
